Together Jacqui Hawkins and Matt Roman have over thirty years of experience practicing and teaching architecture. Before starting Hawkins Roman Architects PLLC in 2017, they worked for internationally renowned offices on projects ranging in scale from single-family homes to urban master plans, exhibitions, and publications.
As a project architect at Steven Harris Architects (2011-2015), Jacqui oversaw the design and construction of several large private residences in New York. At Guy Nordenson and Associates (2004-2007; 2010-2011), she led several civic-scale projects including five pedestrian bridges for the DDC in New York City, a communications tower in Bayonne, and a proposed aerial gondola in St. Louis.
As a senior associate at Robert A.M. Stern Architects (2014-2017), Matt oversaw all phases of the Camden Waterfront Master Plan, including the new corporate headquarters building for American Water, and worked on large-scale residential, commercial, and hospitality projects in New York, Miami, Houston, Wilmington, and Camden. At Eisenman Architects (2010-2014), Matt coordinated international exhibitions for the 13th and 14th Architecture Biennales in Venice, Italy, co-curated the exhibition Palladio Virtuel, and was project architect for the winning entry to the Yenikapi Transfer Point Competition in Istanbul, Turkey. He has taught design studios and seminars at The Cooper Union, NJIT, and Yale, and has written articles for Log, Perspecta, and The Architect’s Newspaper, and a book with Peter Eisenman on Palladio published by Yale University Press in 2015.
Jacqui and Matt have A.B. degrees in architecture from Princeton and M.Arch degrees from Yale. In addition, Matt has an M.Phil in architecture and film from Cambridge. Both Jacqui and Matt are NCARB certified and registered architects in the State of New York and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
